NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 12: Opening Line Report

$60 in Free Picks

It was a chalk week again for NFL Survivor Pool picks, and most of the big favorites won easy. The only upset that might of caused anyone to drop out of a pool was the Chiefs losing to Tampa Bay at home as seven-point favorites. I am writing this article in advance of Monday Night Football (Texans at Raiders). With the lack of upsets on Sunday I would be real worried if I had the Raiders tonight. There is normally at least one upset each week that affects Survivor Pools.

I had the Steelers last week, and they easily got past the Browns. Will Cleveland win a game this season? Even the worst teams in the NFL normally win a game or two, and only the 2008 Detroit Lions have finished a season without a win. The Browns take on the Giants this week at home. As you will see below, New York is one of the teams I am considering for my Week 12 NFL Survivor Pool picks. That really scares me going against Cleveland down the stretch as these pro athletes have a lot of pride and no one will want to be part of history in this negative way.

Each week in this space I go down the list of decent-sized favorites in the NFL. I normally don’t touch on teams lined at -3 or less. I am looking for my initial pool of teams I am considering for my Survivor Pool picks for that week. I will usually make a list of three to five teams I am considering for the week, and then I do further research on the matchups for those games in order to formulate my picks.

NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 12 Opening Line Report

Dallas -7 vs. Washington (Thursday): Thank God I have used the Cowboys already, and I am glad I don’t have to consider this game. When I was a kid I liked to watch these teams play, and I always noticed that the underdog scored the upset on a regular basis. This is one of the best rivalries in the NFL, and the Redskins have a pretty good squad this year – they embarrassed the Packers on Sunday night and come into this one very confident. Hey, I think I just talked myself into a bet on the Skins at this underdog price. Therefore, I would not recommend the Cowboys in this spot for Week 12 NFL Survivor Pools.

Buffalo -7 vs. Jacksonville: I have said in the past that the Jacksonville Jaguars are near the top of my fade team list. But I haven’t gone against them yet for NFL Survivor Pool picks since I wrote that article. This may be the week. As of this writing LeSean McCoy is questionable. If he was a go then this would undoubtedly be my top pick for the week of the teams I have available. But we won’t have an idea if he will play until later in the week. He is the workhorse for this Buffalo offense, and I would be hesitant to pick them if he is out for sure. Word on the street is that he will probably play. Monitor his progress during the week if you are considering taking Buffalo. Bills to WR Robert Woods is likely out for this game, which is also concerning.

Baltimore -4 vs. Cincinnati: I’m not a believer in Baltimore and I think the Bengals are better than they have looked. This is a tough divisional game. Cincy is desperate. I think that this should be a very close game, and I would not come anywhere near this matchup for my Week 12 NFL Survivor Pool picks.

Atlanta -4 vs. Arizona: I’ll just say up front that I won’t be picking from this matchup, either. These are just two very confusing teams as the Falcons probably aren’t as good as their record and the Cards aren’t as bad as theirs. The Falcons are off the bye, which plays to their advantage in this matchup. However, would an Arizona win here really surprise you? Me neither. Pass.

Miami -7.5 vs. San Francisco: I have already used the Dolphins, but if I hadn’t they would be a strong consideration this week. They have won five straight and are playing some pretty solid football down the stretch run of the season. They are back at home after two straight on the road, and they face a Niners team that has lost nine straight, many by double digits. This is a strong pick if you haven’t previously used Miami. This looks like another blowout.

New Orleans -7 vs. Los Angeles: The Saints are in play for me and will definitely be a consideration for Week 12 Survivor Pool picks. This team comes off two straight losses, albeit in tough games, and they should be strong at home in a great bounce-back spot. They can really put up the points on offense, and that does not bode well for a Rams team that has failed to score more than 10 points in four straight games. Even with a strong defense you have to wonder if they can hold the Saints to less than 21, and it’s doubtful that they can score enough to keep pace. This will be Rams rookie QB Jared Goff’s second start, and Drew Brees should dominate the stat line over the rookie. There is a very good chance I will use the Saints this week.

New York Giants -7 at Cleveland: This is a tough one. The Giants should win. But like I stated earlier the Browns are likely to win a game this season, and that win will probably come at home. They have only two more home games after this one in order to get that elusive first win. I think I just talked myself out of considering the Giants for Week 12 Survivor picks.

Seattle -5 at Tampa Bay: Seattle has been great at home in front of the 12th Man, but they are 2-2-1 on the road this season. The Bucs have won two straight, including an upset at Kansas City in Week 11, and they are playing with a lot of confidence right now. I actually like Tampa Bay plus the points here on the betting line and have no interest in the Hawks for Week 12 NFL Survivor Pool picks..

New England -7.5 at New York Jets: The Jets seem to have run out of gas against one of the toughest schedules in the NFL this season. They are just playing out the string. Everyone in my pool has used the Patriots already, but if you haven’t then what are you waiting for?!
